5 Months Old

Believe it or not, we are actually posting something on time! You are probably thinking..."they just posted his 4 month stats..." well, we did. But today is Carter's 5th month birthday and we vowed to post something for him today.

Carter is constantly learning new things which amaze Dave and I daily. Lately he loves to grab his feet, any time he is on his back or even slightly reclined he is reaching for them. It makes changing his diaper a challenge! He is also rolling to his side any time we put him in his crib so we think he will be rolling over (again) any day now. He rolled over at 6 weeks but after about a week he stopped doing it (probably due to weight gain). His other favorite trick lately is blowing spit bubbles. As if his drool wasn't messy enough, now he learned he can make fun bubbles and noises with it. His drool is VERY constant and so is his hand sucking. His daycare lady is convinced he's going to pop a tooth any day now...nothing yet. I think we go through approximately 15 bibs per day (easily) due to drool alone.

We also tried out his highchair for the first time last night! It has straps like his car seat so he can sit easily without falling (and we don't have to use the old "belt trick" like Lee and I did when we were babies). He loved the new view while eating and even took over the spoon and tried to feed himself. So far out of all the veggies he's tried, he loves squash the most.

As far as crawling...nothing even close. But he does love to stand. He can even stand by himself if we prop him against something. He tips after about 30 seconds when his legs get tired.

We weighed him this morning and he's at 16 lbs. so not too much of a change since his Dr.'s appointment a few weeks ago. It's hard to imagine that he's 5 months old already, we can't believe how fast things are flying by. He is so much fun and we are loving every minute.

Puppy Love

Lately Carter has been fascinated with the dogs. He loves to watch them play and gets the biggest smile on his face if they come near him. Carter and Maisy have a new game together - Carter sticks out his hand and Maisy licks it. Carter cracks up every time. Maisy is in heaven since all she wants to do is lick something and Carter can't believe how funny it is to get dog kisses! Maisy will even try to sneak in a face lick (especially if she sees drool) if we're not looking.

Carter also started grabbing at noses and ears if they sit near him. Maisy, of course, loves it - more opportunity to lick little hands. Shady doesn't seemed fazed by it either, she has been very tolerant. Carter had Shady's ear in his death grip yesterday (I've experienced it many times with my hair) and she didn't even flinch. She just sat there patiently while he checked her out. She gave me a few glances as if to say "what is this kid doing?" but she was good-natured through it all. We're glad they are getting used to each other and becoming best pals. I'm sure once Carter starts cruising around the house the dogs (and their toys) will all be fair game!

Four Months Old!

Carter turned 4 months old just before Christmas. He has been such a big boy lately: he sleeps through the night without question, he grabs for toys or mommy's hair (and immediately puts them in his mouth), he watches the dogs play and laughs if one of them gives him a kiss, he plays for longer periods of time in his exersaucer, he babbles more and more every day, he sits perfectly in his "bebe pod" seat and can play with toys while doing so, and he started eating solid foods!

He also had his 4 month check up on January 3rd and he is a very healthy baby. He weighed in at 15 lbs. 14 oz. which is in the 70th%, his height was 24 1/2" which is in the 40th% (he's growing!!), and his head was in the 45th%. The Dr. said since he was doing so well we could transition from rice cereal (his only solid food to that point) and try other "first foods." We're slowly introducing them to Carter, one at a time for about 5 or 6 days before we move to the next flavor. We started with sweet potatoes last week and he seems more interested in them than the rice cereal. He's not gobbling it down quite yet but he's still getting the hang of the whole spoon idea. Mostly he tastes it and pushes it around with his tounge (90% comes back out). He at least opens his mouth when we bring it to him so we think he likes it! The dogs are loving the new solid foods stage, they don't leave his side while he's eating...I think they see lots of opportunity!

Trying rice cereal for the first time...

Sweet potatoes are much better, and way messier!
